Subarna Paudel, CPB
Tell us about yourself.
I am an accounting professional and Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) based in Toronto, currently working as an Accountant at Quad Infotech Inc., an IT software development company. I have over ten years of experience across bookkeeping, accounting, and management consulting, with professional exposure in both South Asia and Canada. My work focuses on full-cycle bookkeeping, multi-entity and multi-currency environments, and process improvement. I enjoy working closely with business owners and management teams to ensure financial records are accurate, timely, and useful for decision-making.
How has the CPB designation benefited your career?
The CPB designation provided a strong professional anchor in the Canadian accounting environment. It reinforced technical standards, ethical practice, and documentation discipline while also strengthening my confidence when working with clients, employers, and other professionals. For someone building a career in Canada, the designation helped establish credibility and demonstrated a clear commitment to the bookkeeping profession.
What does success look like for you?
Success means trust and reliability. When business owners can rely on their numbers without hesitation, meet compliance requirements comfortably, and use financial information to plan ahead, I consider that success. Personally, success also means continuous learning and contributing to higher standards within the accounting and bookkeeping profession.
What does a day in the life look like for you?
A typical day includes reviewing priorities, reconciling bank and credit card accounts, recording transactions, processing payroll or tax filings, taking initiatives for process improvement, and preparing reports for management. Client and internal communication is a key part of the day, whether it is clarifying transactions or explaining financial results in simple terms. I also spend time refining processes and documentation to improve efficiency and consistency.
Do you have any advice for aspiring bookkeepers?
Focus on fundamentals and accuracy. Strong bookkeeping is built on consistency, documentation, and attention to detail. Take the time to understand how businesses operate, not just how software works. Clear communication and professionalism are just as important as technical skills. Treat bookkeeping as a career, not a temporary role. Last but not least, master at least one software like QuickBooks and as many tools as you can.
How can bookkeepers collectively advocate for their role in the success of businesses?
Bookkeepers can advocate by maintaining high standards, communicating the value of accurate financial information, and educating clients on how bookkeeping supports better decisions. Active engagement with professional bodies, mentoring new bookkeepers, and sharing knowledge within the community also help strengthen the profession’s visibility and credibility.
